Bayahibe

Bayahibe is a charming dominican village in the La Romana Destination area, on the shore of the Caribbean Sea.

Founded as a fishing village in 1874, Bayahibe became over time one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Dominican Republic and in the Caribbean in general.

Despite its inhabitants still being mainly Dominicans, Bayahibe hosts a very large community of expats as well as foreigners that like to spend a few months a year in this quiet but lively town.

Bayahibe is also very famous as it is the only departure point for excursions to Saona island as well as Catalina island, both protected areas in the National Park of the East.

10 minutes drive away from Bayahibe we find Dominicus, very popular all over the world for the all-inclusive resorts. In Dominicus you can find five all-inclusive resorts plus a number of other accommodation such as apartments for rent, bed & breakfasts and even a yacht club.

Dominicus is not an authentic Dominican village and for this reason it only offers European-style restaurants, shops and other amenities. Dominicus' coastline is mainly occupied by the beaches of the all-inclusive resorts but there are also two free-access, public beaches.

Bayahibe Beach

Bayahibe has a public beach a few steps away from the town center as well as a more secluded, secret beach (Playa Magallanes).

Bayahibe public beach is perfect to soak up the Caribbean sun while enjoying drinks and snacks on the sun beds. If you happen to visit Bayahibe on a Sunday you should definitely go to the public beach and witness a typical Dominican family day. On Sundays Dominicans come to Bayahibe from the nearby cities to enjoy a barbecue on the beach with family and friends.

Playa Magallanes is little known by the tourists visiting to the area, but it is a great snorkeling spot thanks to the very populated reef that can be found just a few meters off the shore. Get ready to see Stingrays, Pufferfish and Lobsters as well as Moray Eels and Boxfish.
